Getting 118,659 views (at the time of writing) of my LinkedIn post is 3 times the most views I’d previously received on a post and 59 times the average of what I normally receive!!!

Why did this particular post resonate more than any other?

To be honest, I’m not sure.

Maybe it’s the content or just the stars aligning. Whatever the reason, I hope it’s relevant to you.

The shocking stat that might make you rethink the importance of personal development.

Either as an employee or as a productivity consultant, I’ve witnessed the full spectrum of great proactive leaders who inspire through to ordinary leaders who struggle to keep up as they bounce from 1 drama to another reacting to demands.

But even I was gobsmacked when I saw research attributed to Inc & Harvard Business School saying: “Only 10% of CEOs are natural leaders who guide staff by example.”

It went onto say leaders are unable to reinforce punctuality and productivity if they don’t lead by example.

This reinforces my belief that it’s hard to lead others when you can barely manage yourself.

That’s why developing self leadership skills needs to be high on the agenda of anyone with management aspirations.

What you need to do is learn it as early as you can, embed it, refine it, practice it and keep refining it to ensure it’s current.
